The Matt Urban Human Services Center is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit located on Buffalo’s East Side. Our mission is to provide compassionate and comprehensive support to Western New York’s most vulnerable populations by addressing the critical issues of poverty, homelessness, mental illness, and substance use disorders. We are dedicated to providing housing, essential services, and person-centered, trauma-informed care that empowers individuals to break cycles of hardship and lead stable, dignified lives. Paired with a focus on systemic change and advocacy for those we serve, we strive to be a beacon of hope and transformation, doing the hardest work to serve those who need it most.
Our Commitment to Racial Justice
The Matt Urban Center is committed to promoting racial equity and acknowledges historical systems of oppression including institutional and systemic racism which continue to this day. The Matt Urban Center will take active steps in addressing racial inequity as an organization and as it relates to the community we serve through training, stakeholder engagement, self-assessment, advocacy and intentional policy making. The Matt Urban Center recognizes that not actively combatting racism is equal to complicity.

Our Goals

The strategic plan is being put forward at a moment in time that calls for adaptation and a pivot in a new
direction. It presents a vision of the next year that is meant to bring stability and focus to an agency that has
never faltered when it comes to serving those who need it most, but that has struggled to find its footing in
recent years. With the support and effort of our staff, board members, and community stakeholders, we can
create a future for the Matt Urban Center that doubles down on our strengths, repairs our weaknesses, and
allows us to impact the community we serve in ways far beyond what was previously thought possible.
